It will require good control systems knowledge, ideally applied to automotive electric motors, powertrain systems OR similar, coupled with competent software programming experience (embedded C / Simulink / embedded coder, etc)

Expected skills and experience:

A degree or higher in a relevant engineering subject (e.g., mechatronics engineering, control engineering, computer science, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, etc)

Good commercial experience of developing control software for complex electromechanical systems within automotive, aerospace, or marine vehicle systems (ideally electric motors (e.g., PMSMs), powertrain, brakes, for electric vehicles or similar etc)

Good software programming ability (e.g., embedded C, Matlab / Simulink, or Embedded Coder)

Ability to define new software modules (e.g., Base current control, thermal modelling, state machine and fault management)

Good communication skills (written and verbal)

Practical lab-based experience (competent with a range of diagnostic tools, meters, etc)

Others (beneficial skills): Control Software Engineer

Assist with setup of test beds (lab, vehicle), also systems integration activities (e.g., integration of EDU to vehicle platform)

Understanding of vehicle network protocols (e.g., CAN, J1939) and electrical harnesses

Understanding of power electronics / inverters (control) would be useful

Experience of model-based software design using Simulink

Experience of automotive or marine electric vehicle systems
