Lead Development Engineer

 

Typical involvements:

  • Oversee eDrive development team, general line management for team of up to 6 professional engineers
  • Present DVP updates to the Saietta Senior Management Team, and customer representatives where required
  • Oversee and contribute to the creation and delivery of design validation plans in relation to electric machines
  • Support the development of inhouse test facilities in order to complete validation of e-machines in house to internal and external standards
  • Evaluate external test facilities, create clear Statement of Works and negotiate cost effective contracts for the delivery of test services alongside procurement
  • Lead the Resolution of failure modes and provide design input in order to ensure eDrives meet product specifications
  • Work in a small team with a high level of autonomy, managing own day to day work load

 

Skills / Knowledge required:

  • Experience of the definition, development, planning and implementation of tests for electric motors / complex electromechanical systems
  • The development of test requirements in conjunction with DVP, 8D, and FMEAs
  • Able to support the build and commissioning of test systems and analysis of test data (e.g., motor controller / inverter etc)
  • Experience of failure resolution / problem solving using 8D processes or similar
  • Experience with originating Quality and SOP documents for Test Procedures, DVP, 8D, and FMEA
  • Able to work effectively in a fast paced, small company environment in conjunction with test technicians
  • Able to produce test reports, test data and organise DVP activities
  • Able to ensure that Test Requests / Process are understood, achievable and delivered
  • Previous experience within an EV test environment would be preferred
  • Good knowledge and experience of AC electric motors, controller and powertrains
  • Good electrical engineering understanding
  • Sound understanding of safety requirements.
  • Good problem solver with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Good organisational, planning and communication skills
  • Line management experience in relation to development engineering

 

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Degree in mechanical or automotive engineering or mechanical design experience within a precision engineering environment.
  • Test and calibration experience, ideally in relation to electric machines
  • Test engineering experience
  • Environmental test experience, ideally in relation to electric machines
